MTA train noise is much worse for our health than we knew: study
There’s no ignoring that screeching sound or the damage it could be doing to your ears every time you hear it.
“It’s one of those things you don’t realize until it’s too late,” said Dr. Christopher Hertget.
Audiologist, Dr. Hertget recently put the subways to the test.
Of the sample he took, Union Square 4, 5, and 6 trains sounds hit a whopping 102 decibels.
“It’s loud enough where it’s considered dangerous because its above the OSHA standard of 85 decibels,” said Herget.
For it’s part the MTA told PIX11 News,
“Efforts to quiet track related noise included the installation of Continuously Welded Rail and resilient rail fasteners, as well as the track lubrication along sharp curves.”
Still, Herbert insisted, this noise that we’re hearing is more than annoying its just not healthy
